WISSAHICKON HIKING TRIP
Join us for a lovely fall hike in the Wissahickon Valley Park, a natural oasis hidden right in Philadelphia! You won't even know you're in a city. We will walk for about two hours in the forest on easy trails next to a rushing stream. The park is about a half-hour drive from University City. When: Saturday, November 9th, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Where: Meet at the CVS at 43rd & Locust at 1:00 pm Transportation: Volunteers will provide rides but you must register first! Cost: Free! Bring: Comfortable walking shoes, a raincoat or umbrella if there is a chance of rain, a water bottle, and a snack (optional) How to sign up: You must register so we have enough drivers. SHOPPING TRIP
Especially for new students! Is your room looking empty and bare? Do you need to go shopping for furniture and other household items? We are planning two trips to Walmart, Ikea or the Dollar Store. YARD SALE
FREE yard sale for international students! Find furniture, dishes, pots, pans, and other household items! There will also be a cookout with free food! Cookout begins at 11:30am. SIGHT & SOUND SHOW
Sight & Sound is a Broadway quality theatre presenting the musical "JESUS" -- a timeless story of relentless love. The event also includes shopping at an Outlet Mall near Lancaster and a free dinner. When: Saturday, Sept. 21st, 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm Where: Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster County (about a 1.5 hour drive from Philly) Cost: only $15 per person (tickets usually cost $79!) Join us on a walking tour of Old City in historic Philadelphia! Highlights include seeing the locations of Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, interesting museums, and famous buildings. Each tour group is usually 6-7 students with a Philly local as a tour guide.
When: Saturday, Oct. 5th, 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Where: There will be two meeting points, one in West Philadelphia and one in Old City. The tour will end at about 5:30 pm at Franklin Square (6th St. & Race St.), a popular place to ride an old-fashioned carousel and see a fountain show.
Cost: Free, except you must register.

THANKSGIVING DINNER
WHAT: A typical American Thanksgiving! WHEN: November 23, 2019 (Saturday) WHERE: House for All Nations, 435 S. 45th St., Philadelphia TIME: 4 p.m. (please be on time!) FOOD: Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings (turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruit salad, green beans, cranberry chutney... and of course PIE for dessert!). This is a formal, sit-down meal, not a "come and go" event, so registration is required. COST: We are asking for a donation of $5 to reserve your spot. SPACE IS LIMITED! CHRISTMAS PARTY
WHAT: Join us for a free meal, followed by singing traditional Christmas carols, hearing the Christmas story, and playing a fun gift-exchange game (see below about bringing a gift)! WHEN: December 6, 2019 at 6:00 pm (Friday) WHERE: House for All Nations, 435 S. 45th St., Philadelphia (Tim & Lyn's) COST: Free! -- but you must register in advance. BRING A GIFT TO SHARE! We will play a fun game in which everyone gives and receives an inexpensive gift. In order to play, everyone must bring a gift that costs between $5 and $10 (please do not spend more than $10 so that everyone receives a gift of comparable value). Wrap the gift, but do not put your name on it. Bring something creative and fun that other people will want to have! As always, our events are pork, beef, and alcohol free. Vegetarian dishes will be provided. |
